The Lost Pelican is approximately 100 yards from a family owned restaurant with excellent sandwiches, full meals, and desserts. Once the hummingbirds return to Fulton County, this restaurant becomes a favorite among bird watchers. This area is on the path in which the birds travel as they migrate. We also have a Hummingbird Festival just up the road towards Smithfield.

The second picture on the right is from the hummingbird festival that takes place just between Bernadotte and Smithfield. The hummingbird was caught, tagged, given nectar, and is in process of being released by the woman in the middle that is sponsoring it. She will then be notified as to its whereabouts when it is caught again.

Fulton County is home to many extremely talented artists. Wood carver, Bill Swango in the third picture on the right is well known for his work and specializes in wildlife carving. His studio is open for viewing at the Red Brick School in Smithfield by appointment or through the weekends of the Spoon River Valley Scenic Drive.

Enjoy nature and simply walking around the area. This old iron bridge is not in use today for motorized vehicles, but is a wonderful place to take a leisurely stroll, watch the fishermen, or drop a line down from the side to test your luck on catching a fish. This picture was taken on the Spoon River Valley Scenic Drive in Bernadotte, Illinois.

Nearby Lewistown offers Dickson Mounds Museum, Rassmussen Blacksmith Shop, and the Narrow Gauge Railroad Depot for your interest in history. Please check lewistownillinois.us for more information regarding Lewistown.

Explore interpretive exhibits displaying the 12,000 years of human experience in the Illinois River Valley at Dickson Mounds Museum. Visitors are able to discover the American Indian culture through unique artifacts, tours, programs, & discovery center.

Communities within Fulton County also offer: river fishing, strip mine fishing, pond fishing, lake fishing, antiquing, genealogy information, history, museums, parks, walking, biking, and many other peaceful activities away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. You may also rent canoes or kayaks from Lost Pelican to enjoy trips up or down Spoon River.
